Mr Alyn Smith MEP writes from Brussels
SNP Member of the European Parliament and member of the Parliament's Delegation for Relations with Iceland Mr Alyn Smith has today (Monday) lent his weight to a petition organised by a non-political grassroots campaign critical of the UK government's use of anti-terror legislation in acting against the Icelandic economy. » meira
Leslie W. writes from the UK
I am appalled and ashamed of the behaviour of my Government. They have committed a heartless, and downright criminal act , and ought to be brought to justice. To shun an valuable, strategically important ally in peacetime, is also downright stupid. (I`m sure they wouldnt be happy, if you now allied with Russia, and let them build some `missile defense shield` up there!). » meira
Christopher H. writes from the UK
Your site was forwarded to me -- and I promptly signed the petition -- as we have common goals. As an Englishman, I am embarrassed by the way in which our government has behaved: to the point that I have set up a website of my own that is very similar to yours in concept. » meira
Sarah J. writes from the UK
I have just found your site. I am deeply moved by it and very shocked as I had no idea that the UK government had done this. » meira
Ellinor writes from Sweden
I come from Sweden, and I have read about watt is happening in Island. Its really upsets me. » meira
Ben writes from Ottawa, Canada
I have just discovered this website and I cannot resist the urge to send a short message to express my support to the people of Iceland. This awesome initiative is the best answer to Gordon Brown's contemptuous move. I have never been to Iceland and I never got the opportunity to meet Icelanders, but your reaction in such circumstances, both dignified and humorous, commands a great deal of respect. » meira
Brian K. writes from the UK
I'm rather appalled by what's being said on both 'sides' over the Icelandic & British banking crisis & just want to comment as an ordinary Englishman who had savings in Icesave & Kaupthing Edge. » meira
David M. writes from West Midlands, UK
Whilst I fully sympathise with the plight of the Iceland people at this time, I feel I have to offer my opinion on this matter. As an Icesave depositor I feel let down by the Icelandic government, the fact remains despite all of the rhetoric that the Icelandic authorities have still not GUARANTEED that they will meet their LEGAL obligations to compensate British depositors the first 20,887 euros of their deposits, in this instance I support the actions of the British government to protect my interests. » meira
Louisa C. writes from the UK
I have signed your petition. I am ashamed and sorry that Iceland is being treated in this way. It is not the English people who wanted this, but our failed government, which has lost our respect and is seeking to blame others for its own mistakes. » meira
