Whilst I fully sympathise with the plight of the Iceland people at this time, I feel I have to offer my opinion on this matter. As an Icesave depositor I feel let down by the Icelandic government, the fact remains despite all of the rhetoric that the Icelandic authorities have still not GUARANTEED that they will meet their LEGAL obligations to compensate British depositors the first 20,887 euros of their deposits, in this instance I support the actions of the British government to protect my interests. Your government acted to guarantee deposits for domestic savers and indeed Geir Harde was quoted as saying "it's every country for itself". Whilst I understand that having anti-terrorist legislation applied to Landsabnki was not strictly politically correct it was the only mechanism available to my government to safeguard our interests and for that reason I support their actions. The application of the legislation should not been viewed as a smear on the Icelandic people who I have the utmost sympathy for at this very difficult time. I feel that you and I have been let down by your government, your central bank and financial regulators who allowed your banks to expand and take on liabilities that far exceeded your countries ability to support them. I deposited my money in good faith feeling assured that my savings were protected the Icelandic government have thus far failed to come out right and confirm that they will meet their legal obligations to British depositors.
Kind Regards
